Christmas is approaching fast and most owners are not jolly at all! Excluding tankers, dry bulk owners are been squeezed daily and values are getting lower and lower with no wend in sight and pretty much the same scenario exists in containerships where idle tonnage is piling up.. lets hope that in 2016 some of the tanker owners luck will be passed on to their dry and box colleagues!

Lets examine the Newbuildings placed over the last month. Namura won an order for a 38,000 cbm LPG ship (after 10 years of absence of the LPG building business) from kumiai senpaku for abt $50 mill whereas a JV between NYK, IINO, NS united and astomos have ordered three VLGC’s, two inkawasaki and one in Mitsubishi for long term charter to astomos! Naftomar ordered one option one VLGC’s in jiagnan whereas navigator agreed with HMD to build one 38,000 cbm fully ref LPG for $52 mill. Maran tankers agreed with DSME to build two more VLCC’s ie eight in total while Alafouzos went to JMU for two more suezmaxes for abt $65 mill making four in total! Aktif of turkey chose Hyundai for two option two suezmaxes costing $65 mill apiece while eletson agreed with HMD to build four 38,000 fully ref LPG’s while previously it had ordered two of the same types plus one 12,000 cbm ethylene vessel! TB marine have gone tanker mad and ordered abt 20 tankers including options in china of all product types ie chemical ships, products, lr1’s and lr 2’s, big bet where as tomasos has gone to daesun for two 50,000 dwt products. The only dry order to report is twenty 400,000 VLOC’s ordered by china merchants and china ore and will be built at SWS, Qingdao beihai, bohai and china merchants heavy industries, total order cost is $1,8 billion!!!

Lets continue with the dry sales.  Zodiac paid $227 mill to acquire enbloc 6 scorpio capes, three from sws and three from sungdong three trading and three with Q1 16 deliveries! The ‘aurora venus’ 180,000 dwt built 09 japan got $26 mill while the ‘churchill bulker’ 180,000 dwt built 11 korea that was abandoned by marmaras was picked up by Diana! Karadeniz paid $9,2 mill for the ‘nisshin trader’ 170,000 dwt built 01 japan and another 18 mill to acquire enbloc the ‘sa fortius / sa altius’ both 170,000 dwt built 2001 korea. The ‘tiare’ 83,000 dwt built 09 japan fetched $14,6 mill while the ‘aby virginia’ 81,000 dwt built 15 japan got $24,5 mill. The ‘great dream’ 33,000 dwt built 04 japan 4x30 got $7,5 mill. The ‘eco vanquish’ 30,000 dwt built 02 japan 4x30 got $5,6 mill, the ‘tenna bulker’ 28,000 dwt built 05 japan 4x30 got $6 mill and the ‘pro trader’ 35,000 dwt built 03 china 4x30 got $5,1 mill.

Lets finish off with the trending tanker sales. The ‘cosmic jewel’ 300,000 dwt built 97 japan got $30,6 mill from CS shipping while the ‘mindanao’ 160,000 dwt built 98 korea fetched $21,2 mill. The ‘dong a triton / dong a krios’ both 50,000 dwt built 15 korea got $35,5 mill each with tc attached at 15,500 daily for 5 years.
