Tankers both clean and crude are booming while dry, containers and LNG are really suffering

Heading into the winter and not much has really changed… tankers both clean and crude are booming while dry, containers and LNG are really suffering with no real light at the end of the tunnel at least for the short to medium term…

Lets check out the recent newbuild orders… mitsui agreed with Hyundai vinashin for two MR’s, global united agreed with Hyundai mipo for two 22,000 fully ref LPG’s while tomza went exercised an option for a VLGC at Hyundai and also ordered a 38,000 cbm LPG at Hyundai  mipo costing $51 mill. Jiangsu new Yangzi yard won an order from Bangladesh shipping for three 39,000 dwt product tankers while navig8 went to STX for four 50,000 dwt products. ABC agreed with triyards in Vietnam to build three 21,000 dwt shallow draught chem tankers for Canadian lakes employment while AET ordered two LR2’s and two suezmaxes in Hyundai and another four aframaxes in Samsung! Orient shipping agreed with Hyundai to build two 300,000 dwt VLCC’s costing $95  mill apiece while latsis returned to Hyundai mipo for two 50,000 dwt MR’s costing abt $35,5 mill each. Kawasaki won an order from kumiai for one VLGC while two similar ships were ordered by shanghai zhenrong at yangzijiang costing $75 mill each.

Lets continue with the 2^nd hand dry sales. Swiss marine paid $13 mill for the Chinese built ‘chiara’ 115,000 dwt built 11, frangistas paid $10,2 mill for the ‘amarantha’ 76,000 dwt built 05 japan while titan paid $10,1 mill for the ‘sea of future’ 76,000 dwt built 05 japan. The ‘new agility’ 76,000 dwt built 01 japan got $6,5 mill, the ‘sinfonia’ 33,000 dwt built 10 japan 4x30 got $11 mill and the ‘bonanza kotobuki’ 75,000 dwt built 12 japan fetched $18,3 mill from bariba. The ‘pavian’ 74,000 dwt built 01 china got $4,6 mill, the ‘zena A’ 43,000 dwt built 01 korea 4x25 got $3,3 mill and the ‘matsishima bay’ 33,000 dwt built 11 japan 4x30 got $11,5 mill. Transmed paid $8,5 mill for the ‘prabhu satram’ 75,000 dwt built 04 japan, the ‘red lily’ 76,000 dwt built 04 japan got $8,7 mill while the ‘green island’ 32,000 dwt built 09 japan 4x30 got $10,1 mill from nova marine.

Lest finish off with the sizzling wet transactions. The ‘tinos warrior’ 105,000 dwt built 97 japan got sold to Indonesians while navios paid abt $132 mill to acquire enbloc the ‘new founder/new medal’ both 300,000 dwt built 08/09 china. Ancora paid $36 mill for the ‘alan veliki’ 166,000 dwt built 04 croatia while polembros paid 37 mill for the ‘elia’ 115,000 dwt built 06 japan. Last but not least M maritime paid $56 mill to acquire enbloc the ‘minerva atlantica / Minerva antartica’ both 113,000 dwt built 06 korea ice class 1A from Italian sellers with bb back to Minerva at $11,500 daily each and chrts purchase option of $24 mill at the end of the period.
