Diverging views on the different shipping segments

With the summer coming to an end we see diverging views on the different shipping segments. Bulkers have been improving especially the capes, tankers have bottomed out and thus the only way now is up!? Containers have also doing better and LNG/LPG is still struggling…


Lets begin from the newbuildings front. STX has returned to the world shipping market by booking several MR contracts with socatra, pantheon, oceangold and others, always hoever subject obtaining refund guarantees… cape shipping of Greece has booked two option two 2700 teu containers in Zhejiang ouhua and easter pacific has ordered two similar ships at the same yard for $28 mill each. Mitsubishi ordered one 208,000 dwt bulker at JMU. Nissen ordered 10 option 10 kamasrmaxes in various Japanese yards!!! SDTR marine agreed with chenxi to build a series of kamsarmax bulkers while  JV between Shandong and transcenden also ordered two kamsarmaxes  at the same yard! Bahri ordered four similar ships at hyundai vinashin costing $30 mill each. Foremost ordered two 85,000 dwt bulkers at oshima whereas cosco ordered two option one 62,000 dwt bulkers costing $33 mill each at cosco dalian. Teekay agreed with Samsung to build two shuttle suezmaxes for long term statoil charter with LNG dual fuel and ice class 1A costing $137 mill each! HMM agreed with DSME to build 5 option 5 VLCC’s costing $83,5 mill each and they also ordered two 11,000 teu containers at hanjin subic for $80 mill each!  China’s bank of communicatiosn ordered eight suezmaxes at Hyundai for long charter to trafigura and they did also order twelve MR tankers too!!!

Lets continue with the 2nd hand bulkers sales. The ‘fortune clover’ 77,000 dwt built 06 japan got $12 mill, the ‘in iwagi’ 61,000 dwt built 14 japan 4x30 got $18,6 mill from oldendorff, while euroseas paid bought the ‘liberty prudencia’ 52,000 dwt built 03 korea 4x30. The ‘ocean promise’ 51,000 dwt built 10 japan 4x30 open hatch got $12 mill, songa paid $19, 2 mill for the ‘harbour hirose’ 83,000 dwt built 11 japan and $22,5 mill for the ‘goddess Santosh devi’ 81,000 dwt built 14 japan! The ‘HB princess’ 81,000 dwt built 13 china got $17 mill while genco paid $78 mill to secure enbloc the ‘tiger Tianjin / hongkong / eijing / zhejiang’ all 63,000 dwt built 15 china 4x30. Oldenforff also bought the ‘in shimanami’ 61,000 dwt built 14 japan 4x30,5 for $18,6 mill and two resales ex samjin 35,000 dwt for $15,2 mill each while the ‘ocean leader’ 56,000 dwt built 10 japan 4x30 got $14,5 mill and the ‘ pacific korea’ 56,000 dwt built 12 china 4x36 got $12,1 mill. the ‘IVS cabernet’ 177,000 dwt built 07 japan got $20 mill from CTM, olderdorff bought yet again another bulker namely the ‘boavista’ 93,000 dwt built 10 china for $14 mill while wilmar paid $28 mill to acquire enbloc the ‘star Vivian / star jing’ both 63,000 dwt built 13 china 4x30. The ‘ocean prosperity’ 51,000 dwt built 10 japan 4x30 got $12,5 mill while fearnleys finance paid $21 mill to buy enbloc the ‘voge emma / voge mia’ both 36,000 dwt built 11 korea 4x30.

Lets finish off with the wet sales. Gulf marine paid a only $72,5 mill for each of the two jinhai VLCC resales ex yard early 2019 while the ‘gener8 elektra’ 106,000 dwt built 02 japan got $10 mill and the ‘gener8 pericles’ 106,000 dwt built 03 japan got $10,3 mill. The ‘box’ 50,000 dwt built 09 korea coated got $19 mill from PCL.
