Happy new year to everyone lets hope that the dry and container markets will soon follow the lead and strength of the tanker trades!!!

As always lets begin from the new orders front. Its nice to see fewer dry newbuilds concluded over the holidays! Vogemann has agreed with AVIC to build 4 option 2 dry handies for $22 mill apiece while pacific carriers ordered a second handy bulker at imabari. The same yard won an order for one more handy bulker from ID shipping costing $25 million.

The tulshyan group ordered five suezmaxes in SWS for $63 mill each while Tokyo LNG exercised the first of 3 options it holds at JMU for a 165,000 cbm LNG ship! Nordic American agreed with sungdong to build two suezmaxes costing $65 mill each while BW ordered four LR1 tankers at STX. STX won orders for 6 LR1’s plus 4 options from Pleiades while east med ordered two option similar ships at SPP. Valles also chose STX for LR1’s agreeing to build 1 option 1 ships! Teekay LNG agreed to take up 3 options for 173,000 cbm LNG ships at Daewoo against a shell charter while Chandris also chose the same yard for 1 option 1 175,000 cbm LNG carrier.

Lets continue with the dry 2^nd hand sales. The ‘wah shan’ 175,000 dwt built 03 china got $21 mill while the ‘blue matterhorn’ 81,000 dwt built 11 korea got $22 mill! The ‘anangel omonoia’ 73,000 dwt built 96 korea got sold for an undisclosed price while a kamsarmax resale ex china got $30,7 mill. The ‘gwendolen’ 50,000 dwt built 04 japan 4x30 got $13,7 mill while the ‘stellar rapsody’ 49,000 dwt built 02 japan 3x15 got 8 mill (woodchip carrier).   

Lets finish off with the hot 2^nd hand tanker market. The ‘venice’ 81,000 dwt built 01 3 maj got $12,6 mill while the ‘horizon dimitra  / horizon diana’ both 74,000 dwt built 07 korea coated and ice class 1A got $28 mill apiece. The ‘pink / reef’ both 156,000 dwt built 10 china got $100 mill enbloc while Koreans paid $18 mill for the ‘DL bellflower’ 110,000 dwt built 03 china coated. The ‘ocean force / ocean spirit’ both 40,000 dwt built 03 korea coated got $32 mill enbloc. The ‘skamandros’ 158,000 dwt built 12 korea got $65 mill with 3 years bb back at 16k daily from stena finance while the ‘sti heritage / sti harmony’ 73,000 dwt built 08/07 japan both coated got $63 mill enbloc! Last but not least teekay did the deal of xmas if not the deal of the year by paying abt $550 mill to acquire 5 aframaxes (average age 5 years) mainly Chinese from german sellers and 6 suezmaxes all Chinese (average age 5,5 years) from Economou!
